Indications
This nasal spray is suitable for the prevention and treatment of allergic rhinitis accompanied by nasal congestion (such as hay fever and perennial rhinitis).
Pharmacology
Xylometazoline hydrochloride is a sympathomimetic drug with α-adrenergic activity. Produce vasoconstriction, thereby reducing nasal congestion. This allows cold patients to breathe through the nose more easily. Sodium cromolyn usually acts by acting locally on the nasal mucosa. It prevents the release of type I allergic reaction mediators, including histamine and slow-reacting substances (SRSA) from sensitized mast cells after antigen-antibody binding occurs. The drug does not inhibit the binding of IgE to specific antigens; on the contrary, it inhibits the release of substances that respond to the reaction (such as histamine, and SRSA). The drug can also inhibit type III reactions (late allergy, Arthers) to a lesser extent.
Dosage & Administration
Adults (including the elderly) and children: Spray once in each nostril, four times a day.
Interaction
Increased heart rate or BP with sibutramine. Potentially Fatal: Hypertensive crisis with MAOIs.
Contraindications
Patients who are known to be allergic to any component of the preparation are contraindicated.
Side Effects
No serious side effects have been reported. There may be occasional irritation of the nasal mucosa on the first day of use. In rare cases, cromolyn sodium solution alone can reportedly cause wheezing and chest tightness. Due to the use of lower doses of xylometazoline in this formulation, it can cause minor side effects such as nasal irritation, dry nose, sneezing, headache, insomnia, drowsiness, and heart palpitations.
Pregnancy & Lactation
As with all medications, caution should be exercised during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester.
Precautions & Warnings
Long-term use or abuse of decongestants can usually lead to decongestion or rhinitis caused by medications.
Storage Conditions
Keep below 30°C temperature, away from light & moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
